How to Get Involved
NSDC members and allies are an active, powerful force for the transformation of schools. NSDC knows that without the ongoing, daily work of its members, we will not fulfill our purpose that every educator engages in effective professional learning every day so every student achieves.
There are several opportunities for direct involvement in NSDC initiatives and activities. We believe that these actions ultimately advance our purpose. Whether you take the step of writing your Congress person to advocate for high-quality professional learning, donate to NSDC's foundation, or join a state or provincial affiliate organization, you are joining in NSDC's critical work to improve learning for teachers and students like.
Foundation
Impacting the Future Now is dedicated to growing and supporting a new generation of leaders who believe that continuous learning by educators is essential to improving the achievement of all students. Through the funding of scholarships and grants, Impacting the Future Now supports the belief that improving the quality of teaching and leadership enhances the success of all children.
Affiliates
NSDC’s affiliates not only provide services and programs that align with our vision of powerful professional learning, they offer an opportunity for members to connect and collaborate at the state and local levels. Currently, NSDC has more than 40 state, regional and provincial affiliates, including the New England States affiliate, announced during our 2009 Summer Conference in Boston.
Learning School Alliance
The Learning School Alliance is a nationwide network of schools committed to collaborative leadership, effective teamwork, and increased student achievement. Supported by a grant from MetLife Foundation, LSA members embark on an innovative two-year program, learning together in their own schools, with other schools through webinars and facilitated conversations, and at face-to-face meetings convened by NSDC. Forty schools from across North America are already participating in this innovative program.
Advocating for High-Quality PD
From writing a letter to the editor of the local newspaper, to delivering a laser talk that powerfully communicates the need for effective professional learning, to simply contacting your senator or representative, the strategies found in the Education Advocacy Toolkit are designed to assist members in shaping the policy context and be strong advocates for professional learning within their communities.
Write for NSDC
NSDC’s flagship publication, JSD, is published four times per year, with a primary audience of directors of staff development, district administrators, principals, lead teachers, and classroom teachers. NSDC accepts 1,500-2,000-word submissions for JSD based on the theme of each issue and the submission’s adherence to our writer’s guidelines.
Awards
NSDC’s annual awards program recognizes the work of those whose efforts have a direct impact on quality professional learning. Award winners are announced each year at NSDC’s Annual Conference, and include teachers, administrators, authors, and policymakers.
